Day 1 - Thursday: Tel Aviv

Welcome to Israel !  Arrive Ben Gurion Airport .  Meet your transfer host for assistance and transfer to your hotel in vibrant Tel Aviv.  Remainder of the day at leisure to rest, relax and catch-up with your jet lag. 

 

Day 2 - Friday: Tel Aviv

Today, a great adventure! Spend the morning digging and excavating at the Tel Maresha Dig at Beit Guvrin National Park . Opportunity to dig, sift and examine your finds (weather permitting). Or, visit the fascinating Biblical Gardens at Neot Kedumim. Then, on to the lovely old 19th-century neighborhood of Neve Zedek — a jewel amongst the surrounding modern skyscrapers. Walk along the colorful and quaint narrow lanes dotted with gorgeous museums, cultural complexes and quaint shops. Continue to the old port city of Jaffa , magnificently restored. Spend the rest of the afternoon at lively Nachlat Benjamin with its delightful cafes and crafts stalls — the place to be on Friday afternoon! Tonight, Get Together Dinner (please refer to your tour documents for dinner invitation). (B, D)

 

Day 3 - Saturday: Tel Aviv

Morning walking tour. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Don’t miss the afternoon Israeli folk dancing on the seaside promenade! (B)

 

Day 4 - Sunday: Tel Aviv / Haifa

Depart Tel Aviv. Drive to the Diaspora Museum , experience 2500 years of the Diaspora through unconventional visual aids. Continue to ancient Caesarea ; explore the astounding Roman and Crusader ruins including the impressive theater and aqueduct. Then, visit newly opened Caesarea Harbour with its thrilling, multi-media presentation—you’ll see ancient history come to life! Arrive in Nazareth , the sacred town where Jesus spent part of his youth; visit the Church and Mary’s Well. On to the sparkling port city of Haifa ; check into your hotel atop Mt. Carmel . Travel to a Druze Village — meet these unique Israelis in their homes! You’ll be their guests for an authentic Druze Dinner — complete with fresh-baked pita and home-cooked food! (B, D)

 

Day 5 - Monday: Haifa / Tiberias

View the golden-domed Bahai Shrine and the colorful Persian Gardens . Travel along the coastal road to the timeless Crusader city of Acre ( Akko ); walk through the subterranean city and the bazaars. Continue to Tzippori, 1st-century capital of the Galilee, one of the most important archeological sites in Israel today; view the breathtaking mosaic floors. Then, on to Safed, one of Judaism’s holiest cities, where Kabbalah flourished during the golden age; visit the ancient synagogues and the picturesque Artists’ Quarter. Late afternoon boat cruise on the Sea of Galilee takes you to Tiberias on the lake’s shore for overnight. Dinner at a fabulous seaside restaurant. (B, D)

 

Day 6 - Tuesday: Tiberias / Jerusalem

Drive to Capernaum ; see the ruins of the ancient synagogue dating back to the 5th-century. Then, drive along the rolling Galilean Hills; ascend the strategic Golan Heights . Arrive at Kibbutz Kfar Charuv, settled by Americans and Israelis together; see the astounding view of the fertile valleys below as you stand on the cliffs of the Golan. Enjoy the hospitality of the “kibbutzniks” as you tour the kibbutz and share lunch with its members in the communal dining room. Travel to Bet Shean, an ancient city from the time of King Saul; see the remains of a Roman city. Continue to the golden city of Jerusalem for overnight. (B, L)

 

Day 7 - Wednesday: Jerusalem

Drive to the Hadassah Medical Center to see the brilliant Chagall Windows. On to Yad Vashem, memorial to the Holocaust; visit the Museum, Children’s Pavilion and walk along the Avenue of the Righteous. Then, on to Mount Herzl to pay respects to Israel ’s military heroes. Visit the newly opened Herzl Museum . Drive via the Supreme Court Building and the Knesset (Parliament) to the Shrine of the Book, home of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Time to walk through the Israel Museum and the Billy Rose Sculpture Garden ; see the Scale Model of ancient Jerusalem (opens June 2006).  Evening - Restaurant Dinner and Night Tour. (B, D)

Day 8 - Thursday: Jerusalem

Enter the Old City from the Dung Gate. Walk to the Western Wall, the only remaining portion of the Second Temple . Witness joyous Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah ceremonies! View the Dome of the Rock. Drive to Mt. Zion to visit the traditional Tomb of King David and the Room of the Last Supper. Proceed to the restored Jewish Quarter; walk along the Cardo, the colonnaded main street of Byzantine Jerusalem. Visit the Herodian Mansions, a completely excavated residential quarter from 2000 years ago, or, walk through the extraordinary Hasmonean Tunnel (tunnel schedule permitting). Follow the Via Dolorosa to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre; walk through the exotic bazaars with their wondrous aromas. End the day with an optional visit to Bethlehem . (B)

 

Day 9 - Friday: Jerusalem

Travel via the stark Judean desert and along the shores of the Dead Sea , the lowest place on earth, to  Massada. Ascend by cable car to this last stronghold of the Zealots in their struggle against the Romans. Visit the excavations, Herod the Great’s palace, synagogue and bathhouse. Then, enjoy an “unsinkable” swim in the buoyant, salty waters of the Dead Sea . (We provide the changing facilities and lockers.) Drive via the Qumran Caves , where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found, on your return to Jerusalem . Evening - Traditional Friday Night Dinner. (B, D)

 

Day 10 - Saturday: Jerusalem

Morning walking tour with your Tour Director to the Museum of the History of Jerusalem at David’s Citadel, and to the Old City . Remainder of the day at leisure. (B)

 

Day 11 - Sunday: Departure

Transfer to the airport for your departure flight.

Aim of the tour: Learning about the Israeli architecture on campus – styles, hanging perceptions, international influences, stories of buildings and architects, environmental sculpture and landscape design. The tour is in cooperation with the Friends of Tel Aviv University.

In July, 2003, UNESCO Organization proclaimed ‘The White City’, the unique urban and historical fabric of Tel Aviv, as a World Cultural Heritage site.

This tour focuses on the modern architectural styles of the 1930’s in one the   ‘The White City’ main areas, along Rothschild blvd. ‘The White City’ is the story of Tel Aviv, from its beginning to today and is a wonderful opportunity to savor the experience of life in Tel Aviv, in the past and the present.
