you to your hotel in Athens.
After breakfast you leave for a guided sightseeing tour of Athens. See
Constitution Square (Syntagma), the House of Parliament, the Memorial for the
Unknown Soldier and the National Library. Short stop at the Royal Palace. On
your way to the Acropolis, you pass by the Panathenaic Stadium where the fi rst
Olympic Games of the modern era were held, the Temple of the Olympian Zeus and
Adrians Arch and arrive for a visit to the Acropolis Museum, the Propylaea,
the Temple of Athena Nike the Erechtheion and the Parthenon. In the afternoon
you drive past the wonderful beaches of Glyfada, Vouliag-meni and Varkiza to
the southern most point of Attica, Cape Sounion, for a visit to the Temple of
God Apollo. (B)
Today you will set sail on a one day cruise of the Saronic Islands. You
leave Athens by bus and drive to Marina Trokadero for your embarkation. Sail
for the Island of Hydra, where you disembark before noon and have time for a
leisurely stroll or swim. Proceed to the Island of Aegina, sailing through the
narrow strait between Poros Island and the Peloponnesian coast. Lunch will be
served on board. You disembark at Aegina Island for some free time to do some
exploring. An optional coach excursion will be off ered to the Temple of Afea
Athena before returning to Athens. (B, L)
This morning you leave Athens driving through the fertile plains off
Boeotia, past the towns of _ ebes connected with the tragedy of King Oedipus,
Levadia and Arachova. You arrive in Delphi, the centre of the ancient world,
the Omphalos, whose prestige extended far beyond the boundaries of the
Hellenistic world. On the slopes of Mount Parnassus, in the landscape of
unparalleled beauty and majesty, lie the ruins of the Sanctuary of Apollo
Pythios. Visit the treasury of the Athenians, the Temple of Apollo and the
museum containing masterpieces of ancient Greek sculpture as the bronze
Charioteer and the famous athlete Aghias. Lunch at the modern village of Delphi
and return in the afternoon to Athens. (B, L)
